Dogs
Like most sociopaths of her caliber, she doesn't even feel a small shred of affection for animals and considers them to be barely above dust bunnies. However, keeping dogs means that she looks normal, and having three means people assume her to be a bleeding-heart animal lover, which is useful. All of them are female and were bought from breeders, and are fiercely loyal to their owner. Octavo hired a young woman named Sandra to take care of their day-to-day needs, otherwise she wouldn't be able to stomach them. All three are rigorously trained. They are:
# Clotho: German Shepherd. The oldest, and the alpha female of the makeshift pack. She patrols the home relentlessly.
# Lachesis: Rottweiler. Lachesis is the laziest of the bunch and mostly naps all of the time.
# Atropos: Norwegian Elkhound. Octavo's favorite, Atropos likes cuddling, watching TV and scaring the neighbor boy through the fence.
People Back Home
# Mother: Adela Conner (previously Baker). Currently alive and a movie executive with Paramount Pictures. She and her daughter have lunch about three times a year. Adela is ashamed of what she views as a "poor parenting job," and sends a generous check for Octavo's birthday every October 27th.
# Father: Richard Conner. Deceased. Richard was a storyboard artist for Paramount and a gifted watercolor artist. He insisted that Octavo learn a musical instrument because of the enrichment art had given his life. His death spiraled his wife into depression and drinking for several years.
# Siblings: None. Only child.
# Maternal Aunt: Gayle Baker. Octavo was given her name, but she hates her aunt and remembers her only for uncomfortable summers with her three white terriers and the smell of stale candy.
# 'Friend': Vladimir Pike, a contact of Octavo's from college. Pike is ten years older and into a lot of shady business. She helps him out of legal and financial trouble ever so often, and he helps her acquire 'fun' and decidedly illegal items. They've never slept together, though Octavo's offered.
# Lisa Norris: Octavo's coworker, technically the #3 accountant in the law firm where they both work. Lisa has a sister, Mari, who she never shuts up about (in Octavo's mind). She's single and lives alone, and is constantly having dating drama. She seems to favor Octavo's company, for a reason the sociopath can't quite fathom.
# Sandra McCullough: The dog sitter/walker. Sandra is a college student who doesn't ask her employer any questions and dotes on the dogs. Octavo's never asked, but she's sure the younger woman is a Sociology major.

While Attending Boston University
# Phillipa Norman: First kill. An accident, mostly. Octavo's roommate at the time. Her body wasn't found.
# Moira Weeks: Second kill. A fellow student at Boston University, who constantly ragged on Octavo and tried to steal/copy her work. Weeks' body was never found. Her friends still think that she fled to a different part of the country.
# Unknown Girl 1: A girl that Octavo met at a night club. Octavo purposefully met her, and slept with her, to kill her later. The police located her body at the side of a river.
# Brent Williams: A club kid that Octavo met, who annoyed her so heavily -- when she was on a low anger threshold -- that she took him out. The police found his body in a lake.
# Gary Weaving: A poet and alcoholic who took a fancy to Octavo in the one evening they spent together. Octavo killed him as he was reciting a poem about rage and love. He was the body who led to her tabloid nickname as the Bleak Killer, and her last victim in Massachusetts. One more body was attributed, falsely, to her. The press, of course, assumed her to be male. The police found Weavings' body along the side of a road, three miles away from Concord, MA.
